The intensity really is just staggering at times, especially with the shots of the external city streets.

This brings the film’s beautifully stark, detailed, almost always artificially sourced lighting to life in a way we’ve never seen before. quieter dialogue was lost, but here even some of the more hard-to-decipher words spoken by Rutger Hauser finally make sense. I was hit once more with the ‘sliced bread’ metaphor, and it was only through viewing subsequent purchases that the realisation dawned that those first two DVDs were actually pretty naff.Featuring five completely different cuts of the film, stellar audio and video and the most comprehensive set of extras ever assembled for a Blu-ray release, Warner has left no stone unturned. Many, many scenes that have been discussed for years are finally revealed, including Deckard's visit to Holden in the hospital, expanded material with Blatty and Tyrell, a completely different opening, and even a first-ever glimpse's of Deckard's wife!

I've gotten to see the theatrical, Director's Cut, and the Final Cut in the theater projected from actual film prints. with a flowchart of the changes, it's almost impossible to tell which cut of 'Blade Runner' you're even watching anymore. According to Warner, the studio was not able to upgrade the video-based bonus material to full 1080 due to production constraints, so all of this material is in 480p/i/MPEG-2 video only. Add an Atmos soundtrack that places you in and amongst this brilliantly realised world, and the disc is a real treat (assuming you have a system to do it justice). Directional effects are scattered throughout the film and there is a wonderful sense of realism and ambience to the many crowded street scenes. Now, fifteen years after the faux-"Director's Cut," Warner has at last coughed up for Scott's definitive version, giving us the long-awaited 'The Final Cut,' which is essentially the "Director's Cut" with a series of tweaks. been spiffed up in terms of its visual effects and other slight digital tweaks, there are segments of these three other versions that suffer slightly by comparison. Home Entertainment has sent us a brand new trailer for the upcoming 4K Blu-ray release of dierctor Ridley Scott's classic sci-fi thriller Blade Runner, which will be available for purchase on September 5.

Overall it’s impossible not to be impressed by the work that’s gone into the 4K HDR remaster of Blade Runner. Featurette: "Deck-A-Rep: The True Nature of Rick Deckard" (SD, 10 minutes) - Finally, the answer to the question that's been on every 'Blade Runner' fan's lips over the last twenty-five years: is Deckard really a replicant or not? Simply put, this is the ultimate documentary on 'Blade Runner,' compiling interviews with everyone you'd want to hear from.

It most certainly is, if only because Scott's definitive vision at last closes the book on the film's epic twenty-five year saga.

Considering the film was originally only in stereo, I honestly wasn't expecting much directionality, but it's really impressive how much atmosphere has been provided for the mix.For the rest of the bonus features found on Disc 2 and Disc 4, I will refer you back to our coverage of the previous 2007 Blu-ray release. The Light That Burns: Remembering Jordan Cronenweth (SD, 20 minutes) - A fitting tribute to the real star of 'Blade Runner,' the late director of photography Jordan Cronenweth. For me, his work on the film is simply the greatest achievement in cinematography over the past few decades, and Scott -- as well as most of the major players -- offer nothing but praise.
