A postmortem examination of 3-year-old Hope Jones that was conducted by the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s office produced the following findings: the deceased child had sustained numerous contusions and hemorrhages to her body, several fractures to the rib that were healing at the time of death, and deep hemorrhages on all parts of both of her arms and legs. The finding of injuries at various stages of healing at the time of her death indicate, according to the Medical Examiner, that the deceased child had sustained significant physical abuse on repeated occasions. He is also credited with inventing or developing several voices, including some that are unique to theatre-organ sound, such as the tibia clausa, a large-scaled stopped flute typically played with extreme tremolo; the diaphone, a powerful bass stop with a moving valve-like resonator in the mouth of each pipe; and close imitations of several orchestral instruments. Mawusi’s final visit to Casey’s home as a Case Manager was on July 12, 2022 – shortly before emergency responders were called to the home and tried heroically to save 3-year-old Hope Jones’s life. As a Case Manager, Mawusi was a state-mandated reporter, meaning she was legally obligated to make a report if she had reasonable cause to suspect that Jones was a victim of child abuse. We allege that Mawusi repeatedly failed to investigate and intervene during what should have been obvious signs of physical harm inflicted on Hope Jones during her tragically short life. Rudolph Wurlitzer’s youngest son, Farny Reginald, joined the firm in 1904, soon becoming manager of the North Tonawanda plant. It was he who recognised the potential market in making instruments for the accompaniment of silent films and the assets and patents of the Hope-Jones Organ Company were acquired by the Rudolph Wurlitzer Company, who saw a new market developing in the Movie Theatres which were starting to spring up around the Country.

Listen to Mr. Richmond playing the Hammond Organ during a Music While You Workprogramme for the BBCin 1963 Organ Society Told of Builder" (26 February 1969) Kittanning Simpson Leader Times, p.15, Kittanning, PAI was so pleased to read this - and not just because she liked my book. No, I was particularly delighted, because she had understood exactly what I was trying to achieve with the Hope Jones series: I wanted to write about an ordinary girl who wanted to do her own small part to combat climate change. She knows she won’t save the world by giving up plastic. But she’ll make a difference, however small. She won’t take a plastic spoon in the café. She turns down the offer of a free plastic folder at school. She tries to persuade her mum not to buy anything plastic in the supermarket, whether it’s a plastic ketchup bottle or a bunch of bananas in a plastic bag. Between 1890 and 1914, the patent offices of the U.K. and U.S.A. granted Mr. Hope-Jones 45 patents and in 1892 he formed his own company, The Hope-Jones Electric Organ Company of Birkenhead to produce electrical organ components and also to act as a licensing company for patent usage. He built with his staff a total of 246 organs between 1887 and 1911. About 150 of these organs were built for churches. Seemingly most of these organs are now lost, but apparently many contained innovations that were used in the Theatre Organs that he built. Hope-Jones built more than 100 church organs in the United Kingdom before emigrating to the United States. [4] His very sudden removal to the United States was to avoid prosecution when his partner, Eustace Ingram, discovered him in flagrante delicto at the Hereford factory with a boy. [5] Opposition and sabotage [ edit ]

Although the number of theatre organs made by other manufacturers far exceeded that made by Wurlitzer, it must be more than mere coincidence that the ‘Mighty’ Wurlitzer, even today, has a special place in the hearts and minds of generations of movie-goers, radio listeners and dancers on both sides of the Atlantic. Mr. Hope-Jones and Mr. Wurlitzer must have got something right!

Mawusi had been a Case Manager employed by Northeast Treatment Centers (NETs), a Community Umbrella Agency (CUA) subcontracted by DHS to assist with providing social services to client families. Mawusi was assigned as the Case Manager for Hope Jones from the time she was placed in Casey’s care in November of 2020 until Jones’ death in July 2022. In 1914, Hope-Jones committed suicide, age 55, by inhaling gas fumes in a hotel in Rochester, New York, some months after leaving the Wurlitzer company. He had written a suicide note stating that he had legal trouble and that a suit was pending. This however was not the case and as a result the coroner declared his death "suicide while insane". [13] He is buried in Elmlawn Cemetery, Kenmore, Erie County, New York. Some have claimed that there were children [14] or least two daughters. [15] However the 1910 United States Census shows no family members other than the wife. Likewise, the 1903 immigration records show none. It has been the greatest pleasure, and privilege, of my professional life to work for the Scotland Malawi Partnership for the last fourteen and a half years. It has been wonderful to grow professionally within this role, as the SMP has itself grown and developed, and to see the countless inspiring stories which lie behind our members’ work.

I am immensely grateful for all the support, friendship and solidarity I have enjoyed over this time from so many across the SMP family. The Partnership is the most amazing community of brilliant, kind and like-minded people: a network of Scots and Malawians brought together through bonds of friendship and the belief that, together, we can make a better world. The coming year offers unique opportunities for us to showcase our region, building on Lonely Planet singling The South of Scotland out as one the top destinations in the world to visit, not to mention the launch of the new Coast to Coast cycle route in the summer which is set to be a huge draw for cycling enthusiasts. A huge advance was now offered in the form of the ‘Wurlitzer Hope-Jones Unit Orchestra’ (later known just as the ‘Wurlitzer Unit Organ’) – this could provide a fullness of sound similar to an orchestra, with a variety of instrumental sounds and effects, but under the control of just one musician, who could watch the screen and match the music to the action in the film, just as a pianist would. I wanted to fill the books with very simple, straightforward, and practical small steps that we could all take. Along with graphs and tables, giving information about the problems, there are simple solutions. For instance, Hope wants to give up eating factory farmed meat, so she offers her readers a recipe for lentil soup. She scrubs the toilet with an eco-friendly cleaner made from vinegar, lemon, and baking soda, and tells us how to make it ourselves. The South of Scotland Destination Alliance has been doing a great job supporting tourism and hospitality businesses in the region and I’m champing at the bit to get started and join such a great team. David’s last day will be late January, from which point Stuart Brown (Deputy CEO) will become the Interim CEO of the SMP, at the request of the Board.
