Chock full of cool information and rare tidbits, this one is, to my knowledge, really the first out of the gate in terms of a fan-made FULL retrospective on a film. Yet if the rocker-turned-filmmaker makes good on his premise to reinvent the franchise, it could mean a welcome new beginning for Halloween—and if such becomes the case, there’s no better way to close the book on the original series than with this DVD package. Not just covering the production stories, or the fan base, or some other aspect exclusively -- but it's really a full-orbit "all-things-Halloween" documentary.

Not because there is excessive gore and violence, but because of the skillful amalgamation of suspense, atmospheric music score and brilliant direction. In one convention clip, this devotion is rewarded when a drawing is held to award a lucky fan the chance to appear in the ninth Halloween; the winner is a cute girl whose victory is evidently unrelated to the fact that she flashes the documentarians’ camera elsewhere on the disc.It examines why the films are so popular and revisits many of the original locations used in the films - seeing the effects on the local community. For devoted fans of the Halloween series who couldn't make it to that legendary event, this is definitely the next best thing to actually having been there. Ja vielleicht mag die us version viel länger gehen, aber die doku über halloween in spielfilm länge reicht vollkommen aus um sich ausfürlich zu informieren und mal hinter die kulissen zu schauen.

Theres documentaries about the making of all the movies, loads of convention interviews with the cast and crew, tours around haddonfield, info on the halloween gathering that most of the dvd info comes from, merchandise, fans of the films and loads more. But the first disc isn’t done yet, as a host of additional interview snippets shed more light on assorted side topics. Particularly those who enjoy the wave of groundbreaking films from the seventies among which was this first classic monsterpiece that started it all. The impetus is a Halloween convention held in South Pasadena (site of the original filming), from which a considerable amount of footage is drawn. Halloween: A Cut Above The Rest, a documentary about the making of Halloween on disc 2, plus On Location 25 Years Later and trailers, T V and radio spots. While there's likely to be a fair amount of information contained herein that die hard fans already know, 'A Cut Above the Rest' does work nicely as a primer on all things "Halloween".

essentially from H3 onward, in my opinion, I was nevertheless equally intrigued with the stories and info on the later films of the series, which I think speaks to the quality of the show's craft. The documentary does get a little bogged down at times in showing clips of the movie, but the interviews are quite wonderful to see.In between the reminiscences both positive and negative, horror heavyweights like Clive Barker and Rob Zombie weigh in on both the first film’s primal appeal and the downslide of quality and substance in its follow-ups.
