In Love Is Not Enough, Mark’s first Audible Original, you’ll follow five real people over the course of six months as they navigate f--ked up romantic situations, ranging from dating app addiction to marital affairs to absurd fantasies. The town’s peace is shaken however after their kitchen manager is found dead in the walk-in freezer. Lots of clues seem to appear (no bread crumbs here) and just be "thrown" at them until the big reveal (womp, womp). I learned the ladies are actually a committed couple although they are pretty grumpy and seem to argue quite a lot. It is a delightful cozy read and easy to do if you want something in between books that have been a bit hard going, this is a nice one to pick up read in a couple of days.

NetGalley review 'The characters are beautifully written and I came to love them within the first few pages and was rooting for them all the way to the end. All my life I lived with my grandmother until her passing a year ago, and I was raised on a steady diet of Miss Marple, Murder She Wrote, and Rosemary and Thyme. The people of Japan believe that everyone has an ikigai - a reason for being; the thing that gets you out of bed each morning. When Caroline Hughes, the elderly kitchen manager, is found dead in the walk-in freezer, everyone is shocked. The sky outside was grey and miserable, a damp kind of darkness that sucked any remnants of joy from the tidy cul-de-sac on Seymour Road. New and familiar characters abound, voiced by a bright mix of performers, including Kat Dennings, Regé-Jean Page, Emma Corrin, Michael Sheen, Kristen Schaal, Brian Cox, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Wright, and so many more, including fan-favorite narrators Simon Vance and Ray Porter. One thing I did really love about this book is that the relationship between Margery and Clementine isn't explicitly stated through most of the book. On the one hand, I liked the premise and I also liked that it was set among the dinner ladies, cleaners and other support staff at the school. This life-changing Audible Original features a powerful mix of one-on-one life-coaching sessions and a personal narrative with vital take-aways that you can start using immediately. What follows is a wild ride as the two end up, among other things, crashing into a fishpond, arrested for trespassing on a crime scene, and getting into a war of words with a gym receptionist. However, I dislike the writing style because I just don’t get used to this British writing style probably. The hilarious pond which everybody hates but never bothers too much to talk about it represents what it would be like in a small town as Dewstow represents in this book.

It is described as "a delightful, quintessentially British cosy mystery" and that's exactly what you get. Their relationship absolutely shines through from start to finish, it's beautiful and very authentic feeling. The dinner ladies, Clementine and Margery work together in the cafeteria of a school, serving the students in the lunch line (why do they say dinner)? The taverna is the only place that Kostas and Defne can meet in secret, hidden beneath the blackened beams from which hang garlands of garlic and chilli peppers, creeping honeysuckle, and in the centre, growing through a cavity in the roof, a fig tree.I'm not ready to go seek the next one out, but if I run out of other things to read at some point I might. Side note: I don’t like to compare books but I have to say that I enjoyed TDLD more than The Thursday Murder Club. There are some very funny moments (the suspended school ceiling being a particular highlight for me 🤣🤣) amongst a great and engaging plot with excellent characters throughout. Having enjoyed a number of cozy mysteries featuring elderly amateur sleuths recently I had quite high expectations for The Dinner Lady Detectives, but unfortunately I felt its potential was unrealised.

The author's works on the plot twist for the murderer were kind of odd in a make-sense way for some logical thinking but not in a truly good way. I would say the beginning of the book was a bit slow to get going for me, it got better just over halfway but on the whole a good read and I would recommend it.Clementine is more talkative with a hint of rudeness, an unorganized person, and a person who has ”You only live once” motto on her forehead. Then, there is Margaery, Clementine’s sort of partner in crime because they both live under the same roof, and whatever Clementine does, Margaery always in (even though he always says No but Clementine has her own way to drag her over everything). With little more than a hunch and a stray earring to go on, Clementine and Margery begin their own investigation, determined that whoever is responsible will get their just desserts. MY THOUGHTS: There have been a few good muder-mysteries released this year featuring older protagonists. A charming and very English murder mystery, which will appeal to everyone embracing the resurgence of cosy crime novels.
