I invited Eileen Ford Model agency to send their most famous models, known world wide, to my studio for the taking of this photograph. Kennedy, Gina Lollabrigida, Diana Vreeland, Marlene Dietrich, Judy Garland, Louis Armstrong, Laurence Olivier, Alan Bates, and Richard Burton among others.

I had a brownstone [studio] that was right across from it on East 58 th Street, and I look out the window one day and I see that they are tearing down the brownstones opposite me – they were old and no one was in them.We could talk about the repetition of forms, its tight structure, its compression of space, seductive use of color and beautiful women gazing out at the camera as reasons that it is a rigorous, well constructed image.
