I invited Eileen Ford Model agency to send their most famous models, known world wide, to my studio for the taking of this photograph. Kennedy, Gina Lollabrigida, Diana Vreeland, Marlene Dietrich, Judy Garland, Louis Armstrong, Laurence Olivier, Alan Bates, and Richard Burton among others.

I had a brownstone [studio] that was right across from it on East 58 th Street, and I look out the window one day and I see that they are tearing down the brownstones opposite me – they were old and no one was in them.We could talk about the repetition of forms, its tight structure, its compression of space, seductive use of color and beautiful women gazing out at the camera as reasons that it is a rigorous, well constructed image. Marc Chagall’s stained glass windows can be seen in a variety of places in Europe, Israel and the United States. More than 160 prints of Ormond Gigli’s “Girls in the Window” have been sold at auctions over the years. I used a high quality paper/poster with a gloss-finish as I feel it gives the image a beautiful shine. Still, I was absolutely gobsmacked by the image, of several dozen glamorously attired women precariously posed in the glassless windows of a row of decrepit buildings, and wrote down the title and the photographer's name so that I could look it up when I got home.

Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. We had to work quickly to secure City permissions, arrange for models which included celebrities, the demolition supervisior’s wife (third floor, third from left), my own wife (second floor, far right), and also secure the Rolls Royce to be parked on the sidewalk. The collection reflects and communicates the adventures and enthusiastic vision of HBC through various themes and media. On 1stDibs, stained glass windows have long been popular, with older editions for sale from the 19th Century and newer versions made as recently as the 21st Century. Some of Gigli's favorite photographs were self-assigned, international award-winners, such as 'Girls in the Windows' photographed in 1960.Forty models are posing in the window frames of brownstones across East 58th Street on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, a menagerie of colorful dresses and evening gowns. The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. It kind of reminds me of that scene in Bye Bye Birdie where are the girls are on the phone spreading the town gossip about Hugo and Kim -- know what I mean?

There were 86 windows in total, and they can be found in New York, USA; Zurich, Switzerland; Mainz, Germany; Tudeley, UK; West Sussex, UK; and Chicago, USA.His ability to earn his subjects’ trust in his vision –often during complicated, uncomfortable, even dangerous setups– was as important to the photos as his technical finesse with the camera. All credit card payments are processed by Paybox, the trusted leader in payment processing for international businesses. His photographs were featured in prominent magazines, such as LIFE, Time, Paris Match, Saturday Evening Post, Colliers, and many others. Born in New York City in 1925, Gigli's passion for photography blossomed when he received his first camera from his father.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. What he doesn’t know is that the image will become one of the most collected photographs in the history of the medium. The models went into the building slated for demolition, climbed the old stairs, and took their places in the windows.Vividly colored chromogenic print on semi-gloss double weight paper with margins flush-mounted on aluminum. Just as Ormond must have felt this great connection to the models and location and his dream – we connect to the spirit, freedom and joy of the picture.
