About this deal

The Awning Anchor plates allow the awning legs to be detached from the side of the van or motorhome, to stand vertically, they are then securely anchored by screwing in a Ground Dog screw in peg on either side of the awning leg. (No more awning leg to walk into!) It takes longer to screw in as it must go through more revolutions when screwing in and out (this will be time consuming if doing by hand) The Pro II’s aren’t just for camping! You can use them to secure your light aircraft, outdoor play equipment, securing outdoor and patio furniture, rigging lighting or staging structures for outdoor events or for permanently anchoring something in your yard. There’s so many uses for the GroundGrabba range. Got a question? Get in touch

Bunnings Australia

Anything will work on grass/soft ground, but the screw in type were almost impossible to get in when on hard standing. Ryobi, as you say are OK especially for occasional use by old gimmers like me but not good for heavy regular use. DeWalt are very good but expensive and I think much loved by joiners and plumbers. when I worked in power generation we favoured Makita which we found fine for mechanical work.

Instead of hammering your tent pegs in the old way, just screw these into and out of the ground in seconds with your rechargeable drill. http://www. caravantalk. co. uk/community/topic/119191-pegging-down-the-awning/?hl=%2Bscrew+%2Bpegs&do=findComment&comment=1400706 I bought some screw in pegs from Aldi, last year. Tried them once - absolutely useless. Even starting them with a lump hammer (defeating the object of them, IMO) they wouldn't go in. Just spun around and I agree that there is a danger of catching fingers / awning ladders as the top spins round. I hate putting the awning up on a hardstanding - which is why we invariably go to places where we can have a nice grass pitch! The Wing Collar is used with a Ground Dog screw in peg, when using the Anchor Plate Kit to secure the awning leg vertically.

The idea of screw in sounds fine, and on something soft, where the point can continue straight down, they're fine, but so often it just comes up against a stone and there isn't enough grip behind it (even with me leaning on the drill) to go any further, so it just spins. Are made of stainless steel, which makes it light weight and corrosion resistance, so it won’t rust

I just use a lump hammer and brute force. I still have a few "screw in" pegs that haven't already bent, and use them as plain pegs. The Kampa ones are good on grass but useless on hard standings. I use the giant nail type with a good lump hammer. I also carry a crowbar to remove them easily. I have seen some that are threaded but you still hammer them in and then give them half a turn to loosen them to remove. Even thought about the rebar type but these look to be over egging it a bit. Screw in tent pegs are great for regular sand, really soft sand and loose earth, and for your standard camp ground earth.
